After nearly 20 hours of travel, the Clarity delegation arrived in Sierra Leone on 1st November, ready to embark on the next chapter of our long‑term initiative, WESOFOD‑led and supported by Clarity Occupational Health.
With hearts full of purpose, Mike Atkinson, Bhavna Panchal‑Taylor, Craig Smith, Lucy Campbell and Dawn Veal arrived not as visitors, but as partners — committed to listening, learning and walking alongside.
Day 1: Faith, Friendship & Local Welcome
Our first full morning was spent walking with children from the Residential Rehabilitation Centre (RRC) to a local church. In that moment of worship and togetherness we were reminded that connection, dignity and belonging are at the heart of inclusion.
Later we visited the Magbema Chiefdom’s Paramount Chief and district authorities, gaining important insight into how inclusion is becoming embedded into the fabric of local development. We then explored Bamoi Luma’s weekly market — a vivid expression of rural enterprise, culture and resilience. Returning to RRC, we shared games, laughter and stories with children and staff — grounding us in the community we serve.
Day 2: Walking With Purpose & Stakeholder Conversations
At sunrise we joined children on their daily walk to school — a powerful reminder of the hurdles faced by disabled children simply to access learning. We then met with district stakeholders including the Ministry of Social Welfare, Gender & Children’s Affairs, where we discussed how support for disability inclusion, youth and community development can scale and sustain.
From here, our journey has only just begun.
Stay tuned for part two, where we’ll cover our Village of Hope visit and the launch of Clarity House.
