May 2013 - Healthy Eating
The largest economic burden to the NHS is poor diet; the cost to the NHS of avoidable food related illness is at least £10million each year.
If everybody ate healthily it is thought that the economy would be £20billion better off each year due to the reduced health care costs, extra years of productive life and significant reduction in working days lost due to ill health.
Studies show that eating the right foods can improve mental health, a survey of 200 people found that 88% felt that their mental health improved significantly when they changed their diet. This included a noticeable reduction in; mood swings, panic attacks and anxiety as well as depression. A balanced diet is central to a healthy lifestyle.
